My Journey to Ireland 🇮🇪
In the cold month of December I traveled to Ireland to visit a childhood friend.
This friend of mine had recently moved to Europe.
My companionship was deeply appreciated, and short trip gave me a chance to explore a new country while taking a much-needed break.
The Weight of Multiple Roles ⚖️
As a Muslim, husband, educator, writer, and entrepreneur, I fulfill different roles.
And at times, these responsibilities can pile up, which makes it feel like a constantly growing weight on my shoulders.
I was about to escape this pressure.
This in-between trip was my quality time to reflect, recharge, and reconnect.
Quality time we all need every now and then.
At least that was my plan.
But Allah ﷻ had different plans.
And Allah is the best of planners.
The Unexpected Blackout
The holiday itself was wonderful; it was the ending that was painful.
On my flight back to Amsterdam, just minutes before boarding, everything suddenly went dark.
No sight, no sound—only complete blackness. A total blackout.
I fainted.
When I gained consciousness, I was surrounded by concerned strangers.
But Alhamdullilah, I was not alone.
"As my Muslim brother had previously found comfort in my presence, I too found comfort in the presence of my Muslim brother."
When the Body Feels Like a Betrayer
The emotional impact of that blackout was intense and immediate.
Fear and confusion overwhelmed me—what just happened?
And why did this happen to me?
Was it a bad meal, an empty stomach, or perhaps something more serious?
I felt betrayed by my body…
As if I hadn't taken good care of it.
But it was not my body that betrayed me.
From Crisis to Curiosity 🔍
This experience became a turning point for me.
It pushed me to explore health and sickness more deeply, especially from an Islamic perspective.
The question that I kept returning to was: What does Islam teach about our health and well-being?
Through that search I uncovered several hidden powers of the mind over our bodies.
I distilled these principles into a concise resource: The Muslim Mental Health Guide - Islamic Strategies for Better Mental Health.
My Prayer
May Allah ﷻ bless this humble effort and make it beneficial for every Muslim who seeks a healthier mind and body.
May He grant us the wisdom to apply these principles, the patience to persevere health-related challenges, and the compassion to share this knowledge with others who would benefit from it.
Ameen 🤲
That's all for today's letter.
